Monthly update 4(6): 2018

June 2018

You can receive an alert of new blog postings by entering your email address into the Follow by Email box on the right-hand side of the page here.

An alternative way to keep up-to-date is to use set up journal alerts on HDAS to create your own personalised evidence updates (OpenAthens account required, register here). You can change the settings as and when your needs change - putting you in control of what you receive and when you receive it.

Princess Alice Hospice staff can email library@pah.org.uk for help and advice on how to set up alerts and/or for help accessing any articles.

Reports and announcements

Research consistently shows that while most people have strong views about the treatment and care they want, only a small minority have recorded their wishes. This accessible and practical guide will be useful for those wanting to promote Advance Care Planning (ACP) within their respective care settings - you can now order a free copy.

Death is an inevitable part of life. We will all die and almost all of us will experience the death of someone close to them. Dying is an incredibly important life stage, but for too many people the end of life can often be an unnecessarily difficult experience.

Hospice UK’s new carers report, produced with Gail Ewing of the University of Cambridge, and Gunn Grande from the University of Manchester, has 10 recommendations for achieving organisational change.

‘A checklist to a good transition’ joins our suite of resources aimed at improving the experiences of young people moving from familiar children’s services into adult services, a process known as transition.

The latest provisional rolling data on annual deaths by place of occurrence 2015-16 Q1 to 2017-18 Q4 is now available on the NEoLCIN website. Annual data on place of death together with other end of life care indicators are available from the End of Life Care Profiles.

In this report Macmillan examine the role of ACP and explore the barriers to its implementation among people with incurable cancer as well as health and social care professionals.
