Reports and announcements

The Primary Palliative Care Research Group at the University of Edinburgh have produced a series of videos for people living with deteriorating health and the friends, family members and professionals caring for them:

  • Early Palliative Care: a video for health and care professionals
  • How to Live and Die Well: a video for the public, patients and family carers: Individual format and Group format
  • Strictly Come Dying

End of Life Care for All (e-ELCA) has launched a new learning module on non-invasive ventilation (NIV) and MND. For more information visit the e-Learning for Healthcare website (login with your OpenAthens account to access courses).

The ECAS is a brief multidomain assessment originally designed for people with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS/Motor Neurone Disease) but is also useful in other neurodegenerative disorders. It makes cognitive assessment fast and accessible and can be undertaken by a health care professional in the clinic or in a patient’s home.

The Association’s audit tool ‘Transforming MND Care’ has been re-launched following a review and is now endorsed by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). It is a simple to use audit tool which supports the implementation of recommendations in the NICE guideline on MND (NG42).

There is also published a Statistical commentary. New mortality data for 2016 has been added to the End of Life Care Profiles for local authorities.

This report is provides examples of approaches which are already in place in some parts of this country. The guide will hopefully prove useful to those seeking to improve things and signpost effective interventions.
